SOCIAL & WELFARE ENHANCEMENT

Child Care

§  97 children are attending class regularly at various centres throughout India. The main objective is to give additional inputs in education to underprivileged children of poor artisans and the community. Apart from this, Non Formal Education through indoor intellectual & fun games is provided.

§  Educational assistance in the form of grants is provided for artisans’ children. Total no. of artisans impacted so far is 88 benefiting 143 children. More than USD 10,000 has been dispersed as educational assistance.

§  25 children from the age group of 3 to 13 years are part of the Street Children project in Agra which looks into Basic education, recreation and nutrition.

§  20 students are part of an E-Academy project in Agra which equips artisan’s children with the skills that will enable them to secure well-paid computer related jobs.

Greener planet

More than 1000 trees both medicinal as well as fruit and flowering ones were planted at the producers units and some at the artisans’ homes to make them act responsibly towards the environment.

 

Health Initiatives:

§  Every month approximately 200 patients get treated for various kinds of sicknesses through our medical centres.

§  Asha organizes Free Medical Camps for the artisans and their family members. 5 medical camps were held at our centres benefiting the artisans and other people from the community.

§  The T.B. Project at Moradabad is providing both medicines to the T.B. infected patients as well as referring patients for further treatment to governmental hospitals. The Centre organizes regular awareness programs about T.B. and other illnesses. Till date 12 patients have been successfully cured from T.B.

 

Women Empowerment:

§  The micro credit project has 5 self help groups consisting of around 75 women. Altogether more than USD 2500 has been saved by these 5 groups.

§  Awareness programmes on issues such as health, environment, savings, legal matters and other emerging issues were held to empower and spread awareness amongst these women.

§  A group of 11 women have been provided with vocational training in “Gem stone painting” which will help them to earn a living and supplement their family income. 

§  Widows working in block-printing units have been formed into a group to create a feeling of social belonging through various programs.

Hope Institute: Hope Institute is a Center offering Tailoring training to the young girls from nearby villages of Chandramampalli in Andhra Pradesh. In 2007-08, 23 girls successfully completed the tailoring training which gave them an opportunity to stand on their own feet and be independent.

The Ex – students of Hope Institute are formed as one group under the banner of PARIKINI wherein the ex – students are encouraged to practice the craft at their own houses and earn an additional income.
